Job Description
We are recruiting for a Lead Electrical Engineer / Designer
Reporting to the Technical Manager, this role requires a hands-on Electrical Lead to drive technically diverse and challenging projects while actively contributing to their execution. In this role, you will lead by example, solving problems, tackling technical challenges directly, and guiding your team to deliver high-quality results. You’ll ensure alignment with project objectives, resolve obstacles, and maintain progress through clear communication and decisive action. Additionally, you’ll foster continuous improvement within the team, ensuring technical excellence and the professional development of its members.
The Electrical Lead is involved at all stages of project lifecycles from project planning and estimating through to execution phases. The Electrical Lead is an important key player in ensuring the Operations Department achieves its objective of successful projects, and deliveries on its core areas of accountability, as such the Electrical Lead’s responsibilities will result in:

Across all areas of accountability, the Electrical Lead is responsible for developing the skills and capabilities of their team as well as reporting progress and performance to the Technical Manager. While the relative balance will vary over time, the Electrical Lead will split their time between leading their Discipline team and directly engaging in activities generally associated with a Senior Electrical Designer.
Activities include but are not limited to:
- Develop 3D product models and create 2D drawings for ship electrical and instrumentation systems for new ship construction and refit projects
- Interpret technical, detail design and construction drawings related to systems design
- Develop cable schedules, electrical load lists, hazardous area equipment lists, voltage drop calculations, fault analysis calcs etc.
- Assist in the development of specifications, standards, and requirements
- Support technical discussions for project reviews
- Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on qualifications of applicant.
Qualifications:
Experience
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology; OR the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience and 12+ years related experience.
- Producing functional and detailed electrical models and drawings for the shipbuilding, ship refit, marine environment
- Producing construction drawings including equipment layouts, cable tray layouts and details, panel layouts, termination details, etc.
- Cable tray routing and supporting details using Industry and project standards
- Engineering and design including 2D drawing layouts, Spec Review and Requirements definitions
- AutoCad, 2D drafting experience required
- ShipConstructor, Aveva E3D, PDMS experience would be considered an asset but not required
- Experience working within a shipyard would be an asset

- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines; flexible, resourceful, and efficient
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to work within a team environment to support project completion
- Thorough understanding of quality and continuous improvement
- Decision making skills and problem solving considered an asset
- Eligibility for enrollment into Controlled Goods Program
- Eligible Canadian Security Status (Secret or above)
- Registration, or eligibility to register as a P.Eng or CET would be considered an asset.
