Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a full-time, permanent Systems Administrator position in Kanata (Ottawa), Ontario or St. John’s, Newfoundland.

The Systems Administrator oversees the IT infrastructure of our organization and is accountable for ensuring that our technological solutions run smoothly and efficiently today and for the future. This person is responsible for managing our servers, on-site and remote machines, cloud software (ex: MS 365 accounts) including document management system and the interconnectedness of all these components that ensure the smooth functioning of our teams.

Additionally, our ideal candidate has an interest in learning about or is already cross trained in database administration. This is considered a plus but is not a mandatory requirement for the role. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:         

  • Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization
  • Install and upgrade computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications to leadership team for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure
  • Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster/failure recovery procedures
  • Lead helpdesk support efforts, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions
  • Responsible for capacity, storage planning, and database performance
  • Responsible for the set up and maintenance of the companies Cyber Security
  • Procure, implement, maintain, and support evolutions of suitable and appropriate software licenses, hardware, and IT infrastructure equipment.
  • Managing supplier and vendors accordingly.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required
  • 4-7 years of network administration or system administration experience
  • Able to qualify for Secret level and Controlled Goods clearances
  • System administration and IT certifications in Microsoft, or other network related fields are an asset
  • Working knowledge of virtualization, VMWare, or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools is considered an asset
  • A track record of developing and implementing IT strategy and plans
  • Proven capabilities in defining and implementing Active Directory domains.
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols
  • Experience with remote environments and teams considered an asset.
  • Experience with establishing and maintaining SharePoint sites and infrastructure considered an asset
